FAQs

01

What is waxing?

Waxing is a meticulous method of safe, sanitary, semi-permanent hair removal from the root of each hair follicle. There are several methods in which waxing may be performed on differing areas of the human body, where unwanted hair can be successfully removed using a variety of different wax products. At Serene Wax Boutique, we use a high quality wax combined with our special techniques to help you achieve the best possible results.

What’s the difference between a bikini wax and a Brazilian wax?

Brazilian waxes differ from regular bikini waxes because hair is removed in the front, back and everything in between. A "landing strip" is typically left in the front, but you can opt for everything removed.

A bikini wax removes hair anywhere it might be seen while you're in a swimsuit.

I’ve never done waxing before, what do I need to know?

The first and foremost thing you need to know is that waxing is safe. At Serene Wax Boutique, you will also be guaranteed with the highest standards of cleanness. Just relax and enjoy our professional service. If you have more questions, talk to our experts!

Is there anything needed to prepare for a bikini wax or a Brazilian wax?

Make sure your hair is at least 1/4 of an inch long.  If you normally shave, stop at least 3 weeks before your next appointment.

Take Ibuprofen 30 minutes before waxing if needed. However, the pain is very tolerable for most people, especially with the help of our estheticians at Serene Wax Boutique.

Is there anything I should NOT do before a wax appointment?

We suggest you not drink any caffeine or alcohol 6 hours prior to your appointment, since both can cause your skin to be more sensitive. Stay out of the sun 24 hours before waxing. Try not to use a tanning bed or shave.

How long does a Brazilian waxing session take?

Waxing time mainly depends on how much hair has to be removed and the surface area of the body part. At a specialized shop like Serene Wax Boutique, we can have a Brazilian wax done in 15 minutes!

06

Can you get a bikini/a Brazilian wax during your menstrual cycle?

Yes, you can have a bikini wax or a Brazilian wax during your menstrual cycle.

07

What can I do after a waxing appointment?

You can apply a post-treatment antibiotic cream after waxing. If you experience extended redness we find that applying hydrocortizone cream can help. The redness usually goes away within 24 hours. Try to stay out of the sun and avoid the tanning bed within 24 hours after your appointment. If you want to have a spray tan done, it’s recommended that you wait at least two days after the appointment.

What do I do about ingrown hair?

Gently exfoliate 48 hours after waxing and continue to do so for a couple times a week. This will help keep dead skin cells out of the follicle. Try not to pick ingrown hair. You can come to our boutique and have our esthetician help you with it.

How long should I wait to book my next appointment?

We recommend that you come in every 4 to 6 weeks.  Make sure your hair growth is at least a 1/4 of an inch. Coming in every 6 weeks will yield better results as you will have softer hair and a slower hair growth cycle.
